Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Mind Energy Publisher accesses, uses, stores, and handles information when users authorize the application to access their YouTube channel through Google OAuth 2.0.

1. About Mind Energy Publisher

Mind Energy Publisher is a desktop application that allows authorized users to upload video files from their computer to YouTube channels through the YouTube Data API v3.

The application requires the user to explicitly authorize access to a YouTube channel using Google's OAuth 2.0 authorization process.

2. Google user data and permissions accessed by the application

Mind Energy Publisher requests the following Google OAuth permissions. The application uses each permission only for the functions described below.

2.1 YouTube read-only access

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube.readonly

This permission allows Mind Energy Publisher to view YouTube account and channel information. The application uses it with channels.list and mine=true to identify the YouTube channel associated with the current OAuth authorization.

The returned channel identity is compared with the intended channel before an upload is allowed. This verification is used to reduce the risk of uploading a video to the wrong YouTube or Brand Account channel.

2.2 YouTube video management access

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube.force-ssl

This permission is used for user-requested video management operations, including:

  • setting a custom thumbnail using thumbnails.set;
  • updating video metadata or publishing settings using videos.update.

This OAuth scope can technically allow additional YouTube operations, including seeing, editing, or permanently deleting videos, ratings, comments, and captions. Mind Energy Publisher does not use access to ratings, comments, or captions unless such functionality is explicitly provided by the application and initiated by the user.

2.3 YouTube video upload access

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube.upload

This permission is used to upload video files selected by the user to the verified YouTube channel through the YouTube Data API, including uploads performed with videos.insert.

Depending on the requested operation, information processed may include:

  • the identity and basic information of the authorized YouTube channel;
  • the video file selected by the user;
  • video title and description;
  • tags, category, and privacy or publishing status;
  • custom thumbnail data selected by the user;
  • other video metadata required for a user-requested upload or update;
  • OAuth access credentials necessary to authorize requests to the YouTube Data API.

Mind Energy Publisher does not request or receive the user's Google Account password.

3. How Google user data is used

Google user data and OAuth authorization are used solely to provide the YouTube functionality requested by the user through Mind Energy Publisher, including verifying the authorized channel, uploading videos, setting custom thumbnails, and updating video metadata or publishing settings.

Google user data obtained through OAuth is not used for:

  • advertising;
  • marketing profiling;
  • user tracking;
  • credit or lending purposes;
  • sale to third parties;
  • development of advertising profiles;
  • any purpose unrelated to the functionality of Mind Energy Publisher.

4. OAuth credentials

Google OAuth provides the application with authorization credentials, which may include access tokens and refresh tokens.

These credentials are used to maintain authorized access to the YouTube Data API without requiring the user to complete the Google authorization process before every upload.

OAuth credentials used by Mind Energy Publisher are stored locally on the computer where the desktop application is running. The application does not transmit OAuth access tokens or refresh tokens to servers operated by Janna Bennett.

5. Video files and metadata

Video files selected for upload are processed by the local desktop application and transmitted to YouTube through the YouTube Data API.

Mind Energy Publisher does not upload copies of those video files to servers operated by Janna Bennett.

Video files, custom thumbnails, and YouTube metadata processed by the application are transmitted to Google/YouTube only as necessary to perform the upload or update operation requested by the authorized user.

6. Sharing of Google user data

Mind Energy Publisher does not sell, rent, or disclose Google user data to unrelated third parties.

Information necessary to verify the authorized channel or perform a requested YouTube upload or update is transmitted to Google/YouTube through the official YouTube Data API.

No Google user data obtained through OAuth is shared with unrelated third parties.

7. Data storage and retention

OAuth credentials required for continued authorization are stored locally on the computer where Mind Energy Publisher is installed or executed.

They may remain stored locally until:

  • the user removes the application's local authorization data;
  • the user revokes the application's access through their Google Account;
  • the authorization expires or becomes invalid;
  • the application is configured to use a different authorization.

Janna Bennett does not maintain a server-side database containing users' Google OAuth credentials.

8. Revoking access and deleting authorization data

Users can stop Mind Energy Publisher from accessing their YouTube account at any time by revoking the application's access through their Google Account security settings.

Users may also delete locally stored authorization credentials from the computer on which the application is running.

After authorization has been revoked, previously issued OAuth credentials can no longer be used to access the user's YouTube account.

9. Security

Mind Energy Publisher is designed so that OAuth authorization credentials and video files remain on the user's local computer except when information must be transmitted directly to Google/YouTube to perform an API operation requested by the user.

Users are responsible for maintaining appropriate security of the computer on which Mind Energy Publisher and its locally stored credentials are used.

10. Google API Services User Data Policy

Mind Energy Publisher's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Google user data obtained through Google APIs is used only to provide or improve user-facing functionality that is prominent in the application's interface.

11. Third-party services

Mind Energy Publisher uses Google OAuth 2.0 and the YouTube Data API. Use of Google and YouTube services is also subject to the applicable Google and YouTube privacy policies and terms.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when the functionality of Mind Energy Publisher or its handling of Google user data changes.

The current version will always be published at https://mind-energy.pro/privacy/.

The effective date at the top of this page indicates when this Privacy Policy was last materially updated.
